Maria Isabella, Infanta of Spain
P.V. Hanselaere, Maria Isabella, Infanta di Spagna, Caserta Palazzo Reale, Pinacoteca
The portrait of Maria Isabella, Infanta of Spain, was created in 1826 by Pieter van Hanselaere, who also produced the portrait of Francis I of Bourbon, displayed in the same room. The artist is an extraordinary interpreter of the Flemish figurative tradition, recording every little detail of reality on the canvas. The Queen wears a silk dress in imperial style embellished with golden embroidery, satin slippers, a tiara of diamonds and oriental pearls and a headpiece of star-shaped diamonds.
