Maria Carolina of Hapsbur Bust
K.H. Schweickle, Maria Carolina d’Asburgo, Caserta Palazzo Reale, sala degli Alabardieri
The alabaster bust of Maria Carolina of Hapsburg, created after the death of the sovereign in 1815, effectively portrays her cold, austere personality. Its creator, Konrad Heinrich Schweickle (1779-1833), trained in Paris and Rome between 1802 and 1806. Arriving in Naples, in 1812, Gioacchino Murat assigned him the task of supervising the decorative works of the Mars and Astraea Rooms.
