Quadreria

XVIII and XIX Century Portaits

In room VII, the eye is drawn to a series depicting the sons of Charles of Bourbon, works by the school of Anton Raphael Mengs (1728-1789). There are also a number of portraits of characters from the House of Austria, a testimony to the strong ties the queen Maria Carolina (1752-1814), wife of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, had with her homeland. Room VIII houses portraits of Philip V of Bourbon, King of Spain (1683-1746) and Elizabeth Farnese (1692-1766), his second wife, as well as a series of portraits of female characters from the Neapolitan court, including an eye-catching portrait of Lady Emma Hamilton, wife of Sir William Hamilton, who was English ambassador to the Court of Naples.
