Fountain of Venus and Adonis
Caserta Parco Reale, Fontana di Venere e Adone.
The Fountain of Venus and Adonis tells the story of the beautiful youth, beloved of Venus, who was torn to pieces during the hunt by a jealous Mars in the form of a wild boar. The beauty of Adonis, son of Cinyras, King of Cyprus, made the goddess mad with love. The fountain represents the moment when Venus implores Adonis not to go hunting in an attempt to ward off his tragic fate.
