Fountain of Ceres

The Fountain of Ceres depicts the goddess of the fertility of the earth and of the harvest, surrounded by nymphs, cherubs, groups of tritons and personifications of the Sicilian rivers Anapo and Arethusa, and also bears a medallion with the symbol of Trinacria, the ancient name for Sicily. Legend has it that Ceres, mother of Proserpine, taught men agriculture and law.
