Villa Porfidia

Villa Porfidia Garden

The Hanging Garden extends over 1.7 hectares and was created at the end of the eighteenth century by Annamaria Auardo Guevara, Duchess of Bovino and lady in waiting to Queen Maria Carolina. It combines the model of the Italian garden, inspired by Vanvitelli's palace, with an ancient forest of hundred-year-old oaks and picturesque touches inspired by the English Garden. The most distinctive element is the Viale degli ombrellini, meaning avenue of sunshades, at the sides of which are benches of Vesuvian stone surrounded by box hedges shaped to form backs, armrests and exquisitely graceful sunshades.
