San Francesco Church
Founded by Franciscan friars in the thirteenth century, the Church of San Francesco, radically transformed in the eighteenth century, has a gothic facade and a single-nave floor plan. Features particularly worthy of note include: the tomb of Ludovico Artus, Count of the city who died in 1370, and the fresco The Madonna of the Milk (15th century). The ceiling is embellished with frescos showing biblical themes by Tommaso Giaquinto (1661-1717); the glazed majolica floor depicts Moses praying at the burning bush and was laid during the church's eighteenth-century restoration.
