Although it dates back to the tenth century, in the eighteenth century the cathedral took on the baroque appearance it still shows today. The structure is built according to a Latin cross floor plan divided into three naves covered by a wooden roof, with eight side chapels which house canvases by Saverio Persico (eighteenth century), Giuseppe Tomaioli (eighteenth century) and Tommaso Giaquinto (1661-1717). In the Chapel of Sant'Anna stands a beautiful marble altar piece depicting the Holy Family by sculptor Giovanni Battista Antonini (eighteenth century). Below the transept lies the crypt, which dates back to the twelfth century.
