Placed in the higher part of the historical center of Caserta in front of the Rocca dei Rettori, the park was based on a project of Alfredo Dehnhardt, director of Naples Orto Botanico. The inauguration took place in around 1880. The garden appearance is of a romantic English garden, with water pools and a small lake, harmonically designed with no rigorous  geometrical order. The avenues and the alleys follow the shape of the locations. Marble busts of famous characters are put along the lawns borders and in the flowerbeds. Vegetation is composed of a variety of ancient trees including pines, cedars and chestnut trees.
