Pierre-Edmond Martin
This painter’s life and work are still largely a mystery. Some documents from the State Archive in Naples show that he was in the city as early as July 1810, having been allocated an apartment in the Palazzo Nuovo. In Naples, he produced “for the Royal House, the copies of Portraits of the mother of HM the Emperor and King, and that of HRH the Mother of the King”. The Caserta Royal Palace collection includes his Portrait of Marie-Laetitia Bonaparte (signed and dated 1810), Napoleon’s mother.
